Summer

School’s out, the weather’s beautiful, and the world is our oyster!

Summer is the highlight of the Scouting year, and Summer Camp is the highlight of the season. The troop attends one week-long summer camp per year, doing our best to schedule around Sound of Sun Prairie, known vacations, and other time sinks. If your family is not able to make the week we choose, we strongly encourage you to go with another troop in the area at a time that works for you.

Summer Camp is a professionally-staffed, high-intensity, program that offers just about every skill in the Tenderfoot/Second-Class/First-Class rank requirements, a slew of merit badges, activities that most troops don’t have the ability to run themselves such as aquatics or shooting sports or climbing, and most of all, the opportunity to hang out with a hundred other scouts from all around the area.

We currently go to Bear Paw Scout Camp, but we try to rotate camps every few years to keep things fresh and see different places, staff cultures, and programs. We always go to a camp within four hours’ drive time so that families can visit if they choose and to keep the stakes low in case of emergency.

In addition to the week-long summer camp, we also make sure that our monthly outings in the summer take full advantage of the weather and available time. The troop owns four canoes and typically takes them out on the water in May or June.
